Possible Causes

Knockout plug not removed from dishwasher inlet, Discharge elbow blocked, P-trap clogged, Incorrect discharge hose routing causing backpressure

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power to the disposal.

  • Check dishwasher inlet: If a dishwasher is connected, remove the drain hose from the disposal inlet and verify the knockout plug inside the Whirlpool disposal inlet was fully removed during installation. If not, carefully knock it out with a screwdriver and hammer and remove the plug piece.
  • Inspect discharge elbow: Remove the discharge elbow from the side of the disposal and check for food buildup or foreign objects. Clean thoroughly.
  • Clean P-trap: Place a bucket under the sink trap, remove the P-trap and adjacent pipes, and clear any clogs. Reassemble and check for leaks.
  • Test operation: Restore power and run water through the disposal. If E7 persists, the internal discharge passage may be obstructed and the disposal may need replacement.
