Possible Causes

Leaking sink flange gasket, Cracked disposal housing, Loose discharge elbow gasket, Leaking dishwasher inlet connection

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker and unplug the disposal. Do not operate a leaking disposal.

  • Locate moisture sensor: Some Whirlpool models have a moisture sensor pad or probe under the base. Dry the area completely with towels.
  • Inspect sink flange: Look around the top of the disposal where it mounts to the sink. Check for water seeping from the sink flange or mounting assembly. Tighten the mounting ring screws evenly and reseal with plumber's putty if needed.
  • Check housing and joints: Examine the disposal body for cracks and inspect the discharge elbow and dishwasher inlet for loose clamps or gaskets. Tighten or replace gaskets as necessary.
  • Test for leaks: With power still off, run water into the sink and watch for drips. Only restore power once you are sure the leak is resolved and the sensor area is dry.
