Possible Causes
Dried or insufficient plumber's putty, Loose mounting ring screws, Damaged sink flange gasket, Warped sink flange
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and unplug the disposal. Do not work under a unit that could fall.
- Check mounting ring: Inspect the three mounting screws on the Whirlpool mounting assembly. Tighten them evenly to compress the gasket.
- Test for leaks: Run water into the sink and watch the flange area. If it still leaks, the putty or gasket may need replacement.
- Remove disposal: Support the disposal from below, rotate the mounting ring counterclockwise to release the unit, and set it aside.
- Reseal flange: Loosen and remove the sink flange, clean old putty, apply a fresh bead of plumber's putty under the flange, and reinstall with a new Whirlpool sink flange gasket if available.
- Reattach disposal: Rehang the unit on the mounting ring, tighten screws evenly, then test for leaks again.
