Possible Causes

Water intrusion into heater or pump, Damaged heater element leaking to ground, Shorted pump motor, Faulty GFCI breaker or wiring

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: This involves shock risk. If you are not qualified, contact a licensed electrician or spa technician.

  • Step 1 – Isolate components: With power off, disconnect the heater leads from the control pack. Restore power and see if the GFCI still trips when running pumps only. If it does not, the heater is suspect.
  • Step 2 – Test pumps: Reconnect heater and instead unplug one pump at a time from the control pack, testing after each change to see which component causes the trip.
  • Step 3 – Inspect for moisture: Look for water leaks around the heater, pumps, and control pack. Dry any moisture and repair leaks before retesting.

Replace the component that causes the GFCI to trip (often the heater or a pump). If trips continue with all loads disconnected, the GFCI breaker or wiring may be faulty and should be checked by an electrician.
