Possible Causes
Disconnected temperature sensor, Failed sensor, Faulty control board input, Broken sensor harness
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker before opening the equipment compartment.
- Inspect sensor connections: Locate the temperature sensor plug on the control board and ensure it is fully seated.
- Check cable integrity: Follow the sensor cable from the heater tube to the board, looking for cuts, abrasions, or rodent damage.
- Test with replacement sensor: If available, temporarily connect a known-good compatible Aquaterra/Balboa sensor to see if the display returns to normal.
- Reset power: After reseating or replacing the sensor, restore power and check the display.
If the display still shows dashes and the sensor is known good, the control board may have a failed sensor circuit and will likely need replacement.
