Possible Causes
Seized pump bearings, Debris jammed in impeller, Failed start capacitor, Low supply voltage to pump
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker immediately if the pump only hums; running a stalled motor can cause damage or fire.
- Check for obstructions: With power OFF, remove the pump from the plumbing if accessible and inspect the impeller for debris.
- Spin test: Try to rotate the pump shaft by hand (from the rear of the motor). If it is seized, the motor bearings have likely failed.
- Capacitor check: A technician can test and replace the start capacitor mounted on the pump motor if it has failed.
Because this involves line-voltage motor work, replacement of the Aquaterra jet pump or motor should be performed by a professional.
