Possible Causes

Blocked or restricted water flow through heater, Air lock in circulation line, Failed or stuck heater relay on control board, Faulty temperature or high-limit sensor reading too high

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Critical safety: Overheat conditions can damage equipment and pose a scalding risk. Turn off power at the GFCI breaker immediately and allow the spa to cool with the cover open.

  • Cool down: Open the spa cover and let the water cool to below 100°F (38°C). Do not add ice directly to acrylic surfaces.
  • Check water level: Ensure the water level is above all suction fittings and filter skimmers. Low water can cause poor flow and overheating.
  • Clean filters: Remove all filters from the filter well(s). Rinse thoroughly with a hose from inside out. For testing, run the spa briefly without filters once power is restored to see if OH clears.
  • Bleed air locks: With power OFF, loosen the union on the circulation pump and main pump(s) slightly until water seeps out and air is released, then retighten. This helps restore flow after draining/refilling.
  • Inspect circulation pump: Restore power and verify that the dedicated circulation pump (if equipped) is running and there is a steady stream from the circulation return. If the pump hums but does not move water, it may be seized or air-locked.
  • Check for stuck heater: If the heater continues to heat when pumps are off or when the spa is in error, the heater relay on the control board may be stuck closed. In this case, turn power off and do not use the spa until the control pack is repaired or replaced.

If OH returns quickly after these steps, contact a qualified Artesian spa technician to test sensors, heater, and control board.
