Possible Causes

Blocked flow through heater manifold, Failed or stuck heater relay on Beachcomber control pack, Faulty high-limit sensor or temperature sensor, Air lock causing localized overheating at heater

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn off power at the GFCI immediately. Do not use the spa until the cause is identified.

  • Allow spa to cool: Leave the cover open for 30–60 minutes to let excess heat dissipate.
  • Check for flow issues: Remove and clean the Microfilter cartridge. Confirm all slice valves are fully open. Bleed air from the heater union if the spa was recently refilled.
  • Inspect for dry fire signs: With power OFF, open the equipment bay and visually inspect the heater tube for discoloration, scorching, or melted insulation, which indicates dry firing.
  • Reset power: After cooling and confirming water flow, restore power. If HL reappears quickly, the high-limit sensor or heater relay may be faulty.

Do not bypass safety sensors. If HL persists, contact a qualified Beachcomber spa technician to test the high-limit sensor, temperature sensor, and heater relay on the control board.
