Possible Causes

Spa stuck in priming mode due to airlock, Pump not responding to control signals, Incorrect pump wiring on Bullfrog control pack, Tripped pump thermal overload

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn OFF power at the GFCI breaker before touching pumps or wiring.

  • Confirm priming mode: After power-up, many Bullfrog control systems enter a priming mode (PR) for several minutes. Follow the user manual to exit priming (usually by pressing a specific button sequence) once pumps are primed.
  • Bleed air from pumps: Loosen the unions on each jet pump and the circulation pump until water flows steadily, then retighten. This removes airlocks that can prevent priming.
  • Check pump operation: Restore power and manually activate each pump from the topside control. Listen for normal operation. If a pump hums but does not turn, its impeller may be jammed or the motor seized.
  • Inspect wiring: With power OFF again, verify that each pump is connected to the correct pump output on the control board (P1, P2, etc.) according to the wiring diagram on the control pack cover.
  • Allow motor to cool: If a pump has overheated, its internal thermal overload may be open. Allow it to cool for 30–60 minutes, then try again.

If Prr/PR persists and pumps cannot be controlled normally, the control pack or pump(s) may require professional service.
