Bullfrog Spas
Suspended Particles and Poor Filtration
Spa water is cloudy and does not clear even with filtration running
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Dirty or undersized Bullfrog filters, High bather load without adequate sanitizer, Imbalanced water chemistry (high pH, high calcium), Insufficient filtration cycle duration
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Handle chemicals with care and follow label directions.
- Clean filters thoroughly: Remove filters and hose them off from top to bottom. For heavily soiled filters, soak in a filter cleaner overnight and rinse well.
- Increase filtration time: Use the topside control to extend daily filtration cycles so more water passes through the filters.
- Shock the water: Add a clarifying shock treatment to oxidize organics. Run all pumps to circulate.
- Use a clarifier (optional): Add a spa clarifier to help small particles clump together so the filter can capture them.
- Check and adjust water balance: Test pH, alkalinity, and calcium hardness. Adjust to Bullfrog's recommended ranges.
If cloudiness persists, consider draining and refilling, especially if the water is old (3–4 months or more).
