Possible Causes
Tripped thermal overload in jet pump motor, Seized pump shaft or impeller, Failed pump capacitor, Stuck pump relay on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the GFCI breaker before touching the pump or wiring.
- Check for obstructions: Remove the spa filter and inspect suction fittings for debris that could be blocking flow.
- Inspect pump: Access the jet pump (e.g., Caldera 2-speed jet pump). Check for leaks around the wet end and listen for humming or clicking when power is restored and the pump is commanded on.
- Manual rotation: With power off, try to rotate the pump shaft (from the rear fan or shaft end) to see if it is seized.
- Capacitor check: A pump that only hums may have a failed start capacitor. Replace with a matching microfarad-rated capacitor if you are comfortable with electrical work.
- If pump does not start: The pump motor or control board relay may be defective. Replacement of the pump assembly is often the most practical repair.
