Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power at the GFCI before removing filters or opening unions.
- Clean or remove filters: Take out the Canadian Spa Company filter cartridges. Rinse thoroughly or temporarily run the spa without filters for a short test (never leave it long-term without filters).
- Check water level and valves: Ensure water is at the proper level and all valves around the pump and heater are fully open.
- Bleed air from system: Slightly loosen the union on the heater or circulation pump until water flows steadily, then retighten. This removes trapped air that can cause hot spots.
- Inspect circulation pump: With power restored, verify that the dedicated circulation pump (if equipped) is running quietly and that there is strong flow from the heater return.
- Reset by power cycling: Turn power off for 2–3 minutes, then back on. If HL clears and does not return with good flow, the issue was likely a temporary flow restriction.
If HL returns quickly with clean filters and good water level, the circulation pump or heater assembly may be failing and should be tested or replaced by a professional.
