Possible Causes
Debris jammed in impeller, Worn motor bearings, Failed start/run capacitor, Low supply voltage
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power at the GFCI and lock out before working on the pump.
- Check for obstructions: Remove pump suction covers and inspect for debris. In the equipment bay, remove the pump wet end cover (if accessible) and check the impeller for foreign objects.
- Try to spin shaft: With power OFF, attempt to rotate the motor shaft by hand. If it is stiff or stuck, the motor is likely seized.
- Inspect capacitor: Many pumps have an external capacitor under a cover. Look for bulging or leaking. Replace with the same µF rating if defective.
- Test under power (technician): A qualified technician can test amperage draw and confirm motor failure.
Most seized motors require replacement of the entire pump or motor assembly with a Canadian Spa Company-compatible pump.
