Possible Causes
Air lock in heater manifold, Very low water level in spa, Blocked suction or closed slice valves, Failed or air-bound circulation pump
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power before opening unions or valves. Running a heater without water can cause severe damage.
- Step 1 – Check water level: Fill the spa so that the water level is above all jets and skimmer openings. Low water can draw air into the system.
- Step 2 – Open all valves: In the equipment bay, verify that all slice valves on suction and return lines are fully open and locked.
- Step 3 – Bleed air from pump and heater: With power off, slightly loosen the unions on the pump and heater until water seeps out, then retighten. This releases trapped air that can cause a dry condition.
- Step 4 – Clean filters: Remove and rinse Catalina filter cartridges. Try running the spa briefly without filters to see if dr clears.
- Step 5 – Reset and test: Turn power back on and run the pump on low speed. If dr returns quickly, the circulation pump may not be moving water and may need replacement.
