Possible Causes
Heater tube not fully flooded due to air lock, Severely restricted flow from clogged filters, Failed heater pressure/flow sensing, Burned-out heater element in Catalina heater tube
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Ensure power is off before loosening any plumbing. A dry heater can overheat rapidly.
- Step 1 – Confirm water level and filters: Top off water to the recommended level and thoroughly clean or temporarily remove filters.
- Step 2 – Purge air: Loosen pump and heater unions to bleed air until a steady stream of water appears, then retighten.
- Step 3 – Inspect heater: With power off, visually inspect the Catalina heater tube for discoloration, bulging, or burnt smell—signs of dry-fire damage. If present, the heater assembly must be replaced.
- Step 4 – Reset spa: Turn the breaker off for 5–10 minutes, then restore power and run the pump. If dY returns immediately with good flow, the heater or sensing circuit is likely damaged and should be replaced by a technician.
