Possible Causes

Dirty or partially clogged Catalina filter cartridges, Air lock in plumbing, Closed diverter valves or air controls, Debris in pump impeller or jet bodies

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn off power before removing filters or opening any plumbing.

  • Step 1 – Clean filters: Remove and thoroughly rinse all filter cartridges. If they are more than 1–2 years old or remain discolored, replace them.
  • Step 2 – Check valves: Verify that all diverter valves and slice valves are fully open. Adjust diverter valves to balance flow between seats.
  • Step 3 – Bleed air: After a refill, air can collect in the plumbing. Run pumps on high with all jets open. If some jets sputter, bleed air from pump unions as needed.
  • Step 4 – Inspect jets: Remove individual jet inserts (if removable) and check for debris or scale buildup. Clean and reinstall.
  • Step 5 – Pump impeller: If one pump zone is weak, the pump impeller may be partially blocked. A technician can open the wet end and clear debris.
