Possible Causes
Failed heater element in Catalina heater tube, Heater relay stuck open on control board, Misconfigured dip switches for heater voltage, Flow just below threshold but not enough to trigger FLO code
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power before opening the control pack or touching heater wiring.
- Step 1 – Confirm settings: Ensure the set temperature is higher than current water temperature and that the spa is in Standard/Ready mode, not Economy/Sleep.
- Step 2 – Check heat indicator: When there is a heat demand, the heater icon or indicator LED on the Catalina control pack should be on. If not, the control logic may not be calling for heat.
- Step 3 – Listen for relays: With the cover off the control pack (power on), you may hear a click when heat is requested. No click can indicate a bad relay or control signal.
- Step 4 – Flow verification: Ensure strong flow from heater return jets and that filters are clean. Marginal flow can prevent heating without triggering a full FLO error.
- Step 5 – Professional testing: A technician can measure voltage at the heater terminals when heat is called. No voltage indicates a board/relay issue; correct voltage but no heating indicates a failed heater element.
