Possible Causes
Dirty or clogged filter, Air lock in plumbing after refill, Failed or stuck flow/pressure switch, Weak or failing circulation pump
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the GFCI breaker before removing filters or loosening unions.
Restore water flow:
- Check water level: Ensure water is at the proper level above all suction fittings.
- Clean or remove filter: Take out the filter cartridge and rinse thoroughly. Try running the spa briefly without the filter installed. If FLO clears, replace the filter with a new Dream Maker-compatible cartridge.
- Bleed air from pump: Loosen the union on the pump discharge or use the bleed screw until water flows steadily, then retighten. This removes trapped air that can prevent flow.
- Inspect circulation pump: With power ON, verify that the circulation pump (if equipped) is running quietly and that there is a steady stream of water from the heater return. A hot, humming pump that does not turn may be seized.
- Check flow/pressure switch: Locate the flow switch on the plumbing near the heater. Inspect wiring and connectors for damage or corrosion. With power OFF, remove the switch and check for debris or stuck paddle/diaphragm. Do not bypass the switch for normal operation.
- Replace faulty components: If the flow switch tests open even with good flow, replace it with a compatible Dream Maker/Balboa/Gecko flow switch. If the circulation pump is weak or not starting, replace the pump.
