Possible Causes
Blocked or low water flow through heater, Air lock in circulation line, Stuck heater relay causing heater to run with no flow, High-limit sensor reading incorrectly due to poor contact or failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the GFCI breaker immediately when an OH/OHH error appears. Do not continue to run the spa in an overheat condition.
Cooling and inspection:
- Remove spa cover: Allow the water to cool naturally with the cover off. Do not add cold water directly to very hot acrylic to avoid cracking.
- Check water level: Ensure the water level is above all suction fittings and at least halfway up the skimmer/filter opening. Low water can starve the pump and heater.
- Clean or replace filter: Remove the Dream Maker filter cartridge. Rinse thoroughly from inside out with a garden hose. If the filter is old, collapsed, or oily, replace it.
- Bleed air from system: After refilling or if the spa was recently drained, air locks can cause low flow. Loosen the union on the pump discharge slightly until water seeps out, then retighten. Some models have a bleed screw on the pump face.
- Check circulation pump operation: With power restored and water cooled, verify that the circulation pump (if equipped) runs smoothly and there is strong flow from the heater return. Weak or no flow can cause OH.
- Inspect high-limit sensor placement: Ensure the high-limit sensor is firmly attached to the heater tube and not hanging loose. Poor contact can cause false overheat readings.
- If OH persists: The heater relay may be stuck closed or the control board may be misreading temperature. At this point, have a spa technician test the heater circuit and control pack. Do not bypass safety devices.
