Possible Causes

Temperature and high-limit sensors reading too far apart, Loose sensor connections, One of the sensors failing intermittently, Control board misinterpreting sensor data

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power at the GFCI breaker before accessing the equipment bay.

Steps:

  • Inspect both sensors: Locate the temperature and high-limit sensors on the heater tube or sensor wells. Ensure both are firmly seated and their cables are intact.
  • Reseat connectors: Unplug both sensor connectors from the control pack and plug them back in securely.
  • Compare sensor readings (if possible): With a meter and thermistor chart, measure resistance of both sensors at the same water temperature. Values should be similar. A large difference indicates a bad sensor.
  • Replace faulty sensor(s): Install compatible Dream Maker/Balboa/Gecko sensors as needed. Replace both as a pair if they are the same age and one has failed.
  • Control board check: If new sensors do not clear SE, the control board may be defective and should be evaluated by a spa technician.
