Dream Maker Spas Excess surfactants and contaminants in water

Spa water is foamy when jets are on

Possible Causes

Body oils, lotions, and detergents from bathers, Low calcium hardness, Old water with high total dissolved solids, Use of non-spa-approved chemicals

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Chemical handling requires gloves and eye protection. Keep chemicals away from children and pets.

Reduce foam:

  • Test and balance water: Check pH, alkalinity, and calcium hardness. Adjust calcium hardness to manufacturer’s recommended range to reduce foaming.
  • Use foam reducer (short term): Add a spa-approved defoamer to temporarily reduce foam. This does not remove contaminants.
  • Drain and refill (long term): If water is old or heavily contaminated, drain the spa, clean the shell, and refill with fresh water.
  • Rinse swimsuits: Rinse bathing suits in plain water (no detergent) before use to reduce soap residue.
  • Clean filter: Rinse or replace the filter cartridge to remove trapped oils and debris.
