Possible Causes
Burned-out heater element in Dream Maker heater assembly, Tripped high-limit or thermal fuse on heater, Failed heater relay on control board, Loose heater wiring connections
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the GFCI breaker and verify power is off before touching any wiring. Water and electricity are hazardous.
Basic checks:
- Confirm settings: Ensure the spa is in STANDARD/READY mode and the set temperature is above current water temperature.
- Check for error codes: If any flow or sensor errors are present (FLO, OH, Sn1, etc.), resolve those first, as the heater will not run with active faults.
- Inspect heater connections: Remove the equipment panel and locate the stainless-steel heater tube on the Dream Maker control pack. Check that both heater terminals are tight and free of corrosion or burn marks.
- Test heater resistance (if equipped): With power OFF and heater wires disconnected, measure resistance across the heater terminals. Typical values are 8–15 ohms depending on wattage. An open circuit (infinite resistance) indicates a failed element.
- Check for leaks: Inspect around the heater tube and unions for water leaks that may have damaged the element or terminals.
- Replace heater assembly: If the element is open or terminals are burned, replace the complete Dream Maker heater assembly or heater tube compatible with your control pack. Transfer sensors and unions as needed, using new o-rings and gaskets.
- Control board relay: If the heater tests good but never receives power (no voltage at heater when heating icon is on), the heater relay on the control board may be faulty and the control pack may need replacement by a spa technician.
