Possible Causes

Spa in cold protection or economy mode, Control set to low heat mode, Sensor detecting very low water temperature, Power recently restored in cold conditions

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Ensure GFCI protection is working properly before operating the spa in freezing conditions.

  • 1. Check mode settings: Review the user manual for your specific Freeflow model and verify the spa is not in economy or sleep mode, which can limit heating.
  • 2. Verify set temperature: Increase the set temperature a few degrees above current water temperature and wait to see if the heater indicator turns on.
  • 3. Confirm circulation: In cold conditions, the spa may run pumps periodically to prevent freezing. Ensure water is moving and that all jets and lines are free of ice.
  • 4. Allow time: If power was just restored in very cold weather, the system may display COL while it gradually warms the water.

If the spa never begins heating despite proper mode and set temperature, there may be a sensor or control board issue. Have a technician diagnose further.
