Possible Causes
Partially sticking flow switch, Marginal circulation pump performance, Debris in plumbing restricting flow, Incorrect filter type or oversized aftermarket filter
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Shut off power at the GFCI before accessing the equipment area.
- 1. Inspect filter type: Confirm you are using the correct Freeflow Spas filter model and not an oversized or high-resistance aftermarket cartridge. Replace with OEM or equivalent if unsure.
- 2. Deep clean filter: Soak the filter overnight in a spa filter cleaner solution, then rinse thoroughly. A surface rinse alone may not remove oils that restrict flow.
- 3. Check for kinks or restrictions: Inspect visible hoses between the suction, circulation pump, and heater for kinks, crushing, or sharp bends. Straighten or replace as needed.
- 4. Exercise the flow switch: Locate the flow switch on the heater plumbing. With power off, gently tap the body of the switch with a non-metallic tool to free a sticking paddle. Do not disassemble the switch.
- 5. Observe operation: Restore power and watch the circulation pattern. If FLO only appears when jets are on high, the circulation pump may be weak and unable to maintain flow under load.
If intermittent FLO continues, replacing the flow switch and/or circulation pump is recommended. Have a technician verify current draw and flow rate.
