Possible Causes

Temperature and high-limit sensors reading out of sync, One sensor open/shorted, Incorrect replacement sensor installed, Control board sensor circuit fault

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power at the breaker before working inside the control box.

  • 1. Inspect both sensors: Locate the temperature and high-limit sensors on the heater tube. Check that both are properly mounted and wired.
  • 2. Verify part numbers: If a sensor was recently replaced, confirm it is the correct Freeflow-compatible part and not a generic with different resistance.
  • 3. Check connectors: Ensure both sensor plugs are fully seated on the control board and not swapped.
  • 4. Power cycle: Restore power and monitor for SE. If it returns, one or both sensors may need replacement.

If new sensors do not resolve SE, the control board's sensor input circuit may be defective and require board replacement.
