Possible Causes
Scale buildup inside heater, Restricted flow through heater, Failing high-limit sensor, Air pockets in heater
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power at the breaker before working on the heater or sensors.
- Clean filter and verify flow: Ensure the Hanscraft filter is clean and that all valves are open. Weak flow through the heater can cause localized overheating.
- Bleed heater: Loosen heater unions slightly to release trapped air, then retighten once water flows steadily.
- Descale heater (if needed): If your water is hard and you see scale on fittings, consider having the heater descaled or replaced by a technician.
If HL recurs frequently, the high-limit sensor or heater assembly may need replacement.
