Possible Causes
Air lock after draining/refill, Debris jammed in impeller, Failed start capacitor, Seized motor bearings
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Shock and burn hazard: Turn off power at the breaker before touching the pump.
- Bleed air: Loosen the pump union slightly to release trapped air until water flows, then retighten.
- Spin shaft manually: With power OFF, access the rear of the motor and try to rotate the shaft or cooling fan by hand. If it is stuck, debris or seized bearings are likely.
- Check for obstructions: Remove the wet end cover and inspect the impeller for debris. Clean and reassemble.
If the motor still only hums when powered, the capacitor or motor windings are likely failed and the pump should be replaced.
