Possible Causes
Heater running without adequate water flow, Severe air lock in circulation line, Failed heater thermal cutout, Severely clogged filters
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the GFCI breaker before working on the spa.
- Verify water level and flow: Confirm the spa is filled to the proper level. Remove all filters and run the spa briefly to check for strong circulation from the heater return.
- Bleed air from heater and pump: Loosen unions on the heater manifold and circulation pump one at a time until water seeps out, then retighten. This removes trapped air that can cause dry firing.
- Reset heater thermal cutout: Some Hot Spring No-Fault heaters have a manual reset button on the heater housing. With power OFF, press the reset if present. Restore power and monitor.
- Inspect for melted or discolored heater connections: If you see burned wiring or a deformed heater housing, do not run the spa. The No-Fault heater assembly likely needs replacement.
If “drY” returns quickly, have a technician test the circulation pump amperage and heater safety circuits.
