Possible Causes

Loose pump unions, Cracked pump union tailpiece, Worn shaft seal on Hydropool jet pump, Freeze damage to pump housing

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn off power and close slice valves (if present) before loosening any plumbing.

  • Tighten unions: Hand-tighten the suction and discharge unions on the pump. Use only moderate force; do not use pipe wrenches on plastic unions.
  • Inspect for cracks: Look closely at the union tailpieces and pump housing for hairline cracks. Replace any cracked components.
  • Check shaft seal: If water drips from between the motor and wet end, the shaft seal is failing. Replace the seal or the entire wet end assembly.
  • Freeze damage: In cold climates, inspect for split housings from freezing. Damaged pumps must be replaced.
