Possible Causes
Dirty or clogged filter cartridges, Kinked or blocked spa hoses, Low water level below minimum line, Sticking or failed flow sensor inside pump unit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the Lay‑Z‑Spa from the mains before touching water connections or opening the pump unit. Never work on the spa while you are in the water.
- 1. Check water level: Ensure the water is filled to at least the MIN line on the spa liner. Top up if needed and reset the pump.
- 2. Clean or replace filters: Remove the filter housing from the inside of the spa, unscrew the filter cartridge, and rinse it thoroughly with a hose from the inside out. If the cartridge is dark, deformed, or older than 2–4 weeks of use, replace it with a new Lay‑Z‑Spa filter cartridge.
- 3. Inspect hoses for kinks or blockages: Check the two large hoses between the spa liner and the pump/heater unit. Straighten any kinks and feel for debris. Remove the pump from the liner (using the stopper caps) and visually inspect the inlet/outlet ports for leaves, hair, or scale. Clear any obstructions.
- 4. Bleed air from the system: With the pump connected and water level correct, briefly run the filter function to purge air. If you hear gurgling or see no flow, stop, open the filter housing to release trapped air, then restart.
- 5. Reset the pump: Plug the unit back in, press the Reset/Test button on the RCD plug as per the manual, then power on and restart the filter and heater.
- If E01 persists: The internal flow sensor (reed switch or paddle sensor) may be sticking or failed. At this point, contact Lay‑Z‑Spa support or a qualified technician; the pump/heater unit may need a new flow sensor or complete replacement.
