Possible Causes
Insufficient sanitiser levels, High combined chlorine (chloramines), Bacterial growth in warm water, Dirty filters not changed regularly
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Avoid using the spa until water quality is restored. Contaminated water can cause skin and respiratory irritation.
- 1. Test sanitiser levels: Use test strips to check chlorine/bromine. Adjust to recommended range.
- 2. Shock treatment: Add a non-chlorine or chlorine shock product to break down chloramines and organic waste, following label instructions.
- 3. Replace filters: Fit new Lay‑Z‑Spa filter cartridges to improve filtration.
- 4. Run filtration and aeration: Run the filter pump and briefly use bubbles to help off-gas odors (do not overuse bubbles with high chlorine).
- If odor persists: Drain the spa completely, clean all surfaces with a spa surface cleaner, flush plumbing with a system cleaner, rinse, and refill with fresh, balanced water.
