Possible Causes
Scale buildup inside heater tube, Restricted flow through heater, Loose or corroded high-limit sensor connection, Failing high-limit sensor on heater manifold
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Shut off power at the GFCI breaker before inspecting components.
- Inspect and clean filter: Remove the Lifesmart filter cartridge and clean thoroughly. Try running the spa without the filter to see if HL clears.
- Check for scale and debris: Open the equipment compartment and visually inspect the heater tube and nearby plumbing for white scale deposits or debris that could restrict flow.
- Verify pump performance: With power restored, run the primary pump on high speed and confirm strong jet output. Weak jets can indicate partial blockage or a failing pump.
- Inspect high-limit sensor: Locate the high-limit sensor on the heater tube. Ensure it is fully inserted or firmly clamped to the tube and that the wiring harness is secure and free of corrosion.
- Descale if needed: If you suspect heavy scale, use a spa-safe descaling product according to the manufacturer’s instructions, then flush and refill the spa.
- Persistent HL errors: Replace the high-limit sensor. If the issue continues, the control pack or heater assembly may need professional diagnosis.
