Possible Causes

Failed heater element in stainless heater tube, Burned heater relay on control board, Loose heater terminal connections, Tripped high-limit sensor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power at the GFCI breaker and verify with a meter before touching heater wiring.

  • Inspect heater terminals: Open the control pack and check the heater element terminals for signs of burning, looseness, or corrosion. Tighten gently if loose.
  • Check for leaks: Look for water leaks around the heater tube that could cause corrosion or shorts.
  • Test heater resistance: With wires removed, measure resistance across the heater element using a multimeter. Compare to the expected value (typically 8–15 ohms depending on wattage). Infinite or zero ohms indicates a bad element.
  • Inspect control board: Look for burnt spots near the heater relay on the Lifesmart control board.
  • Replace heater: If the element is faulty, drain below heater level, remove unions, and replace the heater assembly with a compatible Lifesmart stainless heater tube.
  • Board replacement: If the relay is burned or not switching, the control board will need replacement by a technician.
