Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the GFCI breaker and lock it out if possible.
- Identify affected pump: Note which pump (Pump 1, Pump 2, etc.) fails to start when commanded from the topside control.
- Inspect pump and wiring: Open the equipment bay and locate the suspect Marquis jet pump. Check that the power cord is firmly plugged into the control pack and that there are no burn marks or melted connectors.
- Check for seized motor: With power OFF, try to rotate the pump shaft or impeller (through the rear cooling fan or by removing the wet end cover if accessible). If it is locked, the pump is seized and must be replaced or rebuilt.
- Smell for burning: A burnt odor from the pump or control pack suggests an electrical failure. Do not re-energize until inspected.
- Test amperage (advanced): A clamp meter can be used by a qualified person to check pump current draw when starting. Excessive current indicates a failing motor or wrong pump size.
Note: If the pump tests good but PF persists, the pump relay or control board in the Marquis control pack may be defective and should be serviced by a professional.
