Possible Causes
Seized circulation pump impeller, Worn pump motor bearings, Failed pump start capacitor, Open winding in MSPA circulation pump
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the spa and drain water below the pump level if hoses must be removed.
- Listen for pump: When filtration is commanded, listen for humming without water movement. This suggests a stuck impeller or bad capacitor.
- Check for obstructions: Remove the filter housing and inspect the suction area. Debris can jam the impeller. On some MSPA models, you can access the impeller by removing a cover on the pump housing.
- Free the impeller: Gently rotate the impeller with a non‑metallic tool to free it. Do not force it; if it is very stiff, bearings may be failing.
- Replace capacitor: If the pump hums but does not start, replace the MSPA pump start capacitor (if external). Match the µF rating and voltage.
- Replace pump: If the motor windings are open or the pump is noisy and overheating, replace the complete MSPA circulation pump assembly.
