Possible Causes

Water temperature near freezing, Outdoor ambient temperature very low, Faulty temperature sensor reading too low

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Do not shut off power to the spa in freezing conditions; freeze protection prevents plumbing damage.

  • Step 1 – Understand behavior: ICE indicates the spa is automatically running pumps and sometimes heater to prevent freezing. This is normal in very cold weather.
  • Step 2 – Verify temperature: Use an external thermometer to confirm water is near freezing. If so, allow the spa to run until temperatures rise.
  • Step 3 – Check cover and insulation: Ensure the Nordic spa cover is properly seated and in good condition to retain heat. Inspect for gaps or waterlogged foam.
  • Step 4 – Sensor check: If ICE appears in mild weather, compare displayed temperature to an external thermometer. If inaccurate, inspect and possibly replace the temperature sensor.
  • Step 5 – Do not bypass freeze mode: Never disable freeze protection; instead, correct the underlying sensor or heating issue.
