Possible Causes
Water intrusion in control pack, Shorted heater element to ground, Shorted pump motor, Damaged wiring harness
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not repeatedly reset a tripping GFCI; this indicates a potentially dangerous fault. Turn off power and keep it off until the issue is identified.
- Step 1 – Visual inspection: Open the equipment bay and look for obvious water leaks, burned components, or melted wires around the Nordic control pack, heater, and pumps.
- Step 2 – Isolate components: With power off, disconnect one major component at a time (heater, pump 1, pump 2, blower if equipped) from the control board. Restore power and see if the breaker still trips. This helps identify the faulty component.
- Step 3 – Test heater to ground: With heater wires removed, measure resistance from each heater terminal to ground. Any continuity indicates a ground fault and the heater must be replaced.
- Step 4 – Inspect pumps: Check pump motors for signs of water ingress or corrosion. Test windings to ground with a multimeter.
- Step 5 – Repair or replace: Replace the component that causes the breaker to trip when connected (commonly the heater or a pump). If no single component is at fault, the control board or wiring harness may be compromised.
- Step 6 – Verify GFCI: If all spa components test good, have an electrician test or replace the GFCI breaker itself.
