Possible Causes

Scale buildup inside heater, Restricted flow through heater, Failing high-limit sensor, Air pocket in heater tube

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power at the GFCI breaker. Do not reset repeatedly without finding the cause.

  • Cool the spa: Remove the cover and allow water to cool. Do not add ice or cold water directly into very hot water; allow gradual cooling.
  • Bleed air from heater: With power OFF, loosen a union on the heater tube slightly until water (not air) seeps out, then retighten. This removes trapped air that can cause localized overheating.
  • Descale heater (if needed): If your water is hard and you see white scale on heater unions, consider draining the spa and descaling the heater tube internally using a spa-safe descaling solution, or have a technician perform this service.
  • Inspect circulation pump: Confirm the circulation pump starts automatically and runs quietly. If it is hot to the touch, noisy, or not running, it may not be moving enough water through the heater.
  • Sensor replacement: If OHS appears at normal water temperatures, the high-limit sensor on the heater manifold is likely faulty and should be replaced with a compatible sensor for your Passion Spas control pack.

Persistent OHS errors after flow and scale issues are addressed indicate the need for professional diagnosis of the heater assembly and control pack.
