Possible Causes
Localized overheating in heater tube, Air pocket around high-limit sensor, Scale buildup inside heater, Weak circulation pump
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power before opening the equipment compartment.
- Bleed air from heater: With power OFF, slightly loosen a union on the heater tube to release trapped air, then retighten. This helps ensure water is in full contact with the high-limit sensor.
- Descale heater (if needed): If your water is hard and the spa has not been descaled, consider having a technician flush the heater with a descaling solution to remove mineral buildup that can cause hot spots.
- Check circulation: Confirm that the circulation pump is running smoothly and that there is strong flow at the heater return jet.
- Reset power: Turn the breaker OFF for 5 minutes, then ON. Monitor the spa to see if HL returns.
If HL recurs frequently, the high-limit sensor or heater assembly may need replacement.
