How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power before accessing the pump or capacitor.
- Listen for humming: Restore power briefly and try to start Pump 2. If it hums but does not spin, the start capacitor or motor is likely faulty.
- Check rotation by hand: With power OFF, spin the motor shaft via the rear fan. If it is stiff or grinding, the bearings are failing.
- Inspect capacitor: Many Saratoga Spas pumps have an external capacitor under a metal or plastic cover on the motor. Look for bulging or leaking. Replace with the same µF rating if defective.
- Verify correct plug: Ensure Pump 2 is plugged into the correct labeled socket on the control pack.
If replacing the capacitor does not restore operation, the pump motor likely needs replacement.
