Possible Causes
Closed suction valves, Blocked skimmer or suction fittings, Air lock in pump, Pump running without adequate water
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the GFCI breaker before opening unions or valves.
Steps to resolve PSo/PS:
- Check water level: Ensure water is above all suction fittings and skimmer openings.
- Open all valves: Verify that all slice valves on the suction and return sides of the pump are fully open.
- Clear obstructions: Inspect skimmer baskets and suction covers for debris and remove any blockages.
- Bleed the pump: Loosen the pump union on the suction side until air and water escape, then retighten. Repeat on the discharge side if needed.
- Restart pump: Restore power and start the pump. If PSo clears and flow is strong, monitor for normal operation.
When to call a technician: If PSo persists and the pump hums or trips the breaker, the pump motor may be failing and should be replaced.
