Possible Causes

Water temperature sensor reading near freezing, Actual low water temperature due to cold weather, Sensor calibration drift, Cover left off in freezing conditions

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Do not shut off power to the spa in freezing weather unless it is fully winterized. Freeze protection prevents plumbing damage.

  • 1. Verify actual water temperature: Use a separate thermometer to confirm the water temperature. If it is near 40°F (4–5°C), the spa is correctly entering freeze protection.
  • 2. Ensure cover is on and sealed: A properly fitted Sundance cover helps maintain temperature and reduce ICE events.
  • 3. Check for low water level: Low water can cause cold spots near sensors. Fill to the proper level.
  • 4. Sensor check: If the water is clearly warm (e.g., 90–100°F) but ICE is displayed, the temperature sensor may be faulty. Inspect and reseat the sensor connector on the control board.
  • 5. Allow spa to heat: If the spa has recently been refilled with cold water, ICE will clear automatically once the water warms above the freeze threshold.
  • When to call a technician: If ICE persists with warm water, have a technician test the temperature sensor and control board calibration.
