Possible Causes

Tripped high-limit sensor on heater manifold, Blocked or low water flow through heater, Air lock in circulation line, Failed high-limit temperature sensor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power at the GFCI breaker before opening any panels. Hot water and live electrical components can cause serious injury.

  • Verify water level: Ensure the water level is above all jets and at least halfway up the skimmer opening. Low water can cause poor flow and heater overheat.
  • Remove air locks: After a refill, loosen the union on the heater or circulation pump on your Sunrise Spas equipment pack just enough to let air escape until water seeps out, then retighten. Alternatively, run the jets on and off several times with all air controls open.
  • Check filters: Remove the filter cartridges from the Sunrise Spas skimmer/filter housing and run the spa for 10–15 minutes. If HL clears and heating resumes, clean or replace the filters.
  • Inspect circulation pump: With power on and spa in standard/heat mode, verify that the small circulation pump (often a dedicated 24‑hr pump in the Sunrise Spas equipment bay) is running and you feel flow from the designated circulation return. If not running, the pump or its capacitor may be faulty.
  • Reset power: Turn off the GFCI for 60 seconds, then restore power to reset the high-limit. If HL returns quickly, the high-limit sensor or heater relay board may be defective and should be tested with a multimeter.
  • Do not bypass safety devices: If the high-limit sensor continues to trip, do not bypass it. Contact a qualified spa technician to test the heater manifold, sensor resistance, and control pack.
