Possible Causes

Stuck heater relay on control board, Failed temperature sensor in heater manifold, Low water flow through heater, Cover left on while running high heat cycles

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power at the GFCI breaker. Do not use the spa until the water cools below 40°C (104°F).

  • Remove spa cover: Take off the Sunrise Spas cover to allow heat to escape and speed cooling.
  • Verify water temperature: Use an independent thermometer to compare actual water temperature to the displayed value. If the display is much higher than actual, the temperature sensor may be faulty.
  • Check for stuck heater: After the water cools, restore power and set the setpoint several degrees below current water temperature. If the heater indicator on the topside panel is on and the heater tube warms anyway, the heater relay on the control board may be stuck closed.
  • Inspect water flow: Remove filters and run the spa. Confirm strong flow from jets and circulation returns. Clean or replace clogged Sunrise Spas filter cartridges.
  • Reset and monitor: After cooling and cleaning filters, reset power. If OH returns quickly, shut down and schedule service to test the heater relay and temperature sensor resistance at the control pack.
