Possible Causes
Damaged topside control panel membrane, Moisture ingress in keypad, Loose or corroded keypad ribbon cable at main control box, Failed keypad interface circuit on main control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power to the spa at the main breaker and verify with a non-contact voltage tester before opening any panels.
- Power cycle the spa: Turn the breaker OFF for 5 minutes, then ON. Check if F1 clears. If it returns, continue.
- Inspect the topside control panel:
- Remove the spa side panel to access the underside of the topside control.
- Check the keypad ribbon cable where it plugs into the USSPA main control box. Reseat the connector firmly.
- Look for moisture, corrosion, or green/white deposits on the connector and cable. Dry gently with a clean cloth; do not use a heat gun.
- Check for physical keypad damage:
- Look for cracked overlay, water under the display window, or stuck buttons.
- If buttons feel spongy or stick, the membrane is likely compromised and the keypad/topside assembly should be replaced.
- Isolate keypad vs. board:
- With power OFF, disconnect the keypad ribbon from the main control board.
- Restore power briefly. Many USSPA control packs will show a different error or remain blank when keypad is disconnected. If F1 disappears with keypad unplugged, the keypad is suspect.
- If F1 persists even with keypad unplugged, the keypad interface on the main control board is likely faulty.
- Replace faulty component:
- Order the correct USSPA-compatible topside control panel using the spa model and control pack model number.
- If the main control board is faulty, replace the entire control board module following USSPA wiring diagrams and label all wires before removal.
Note: If you are not comfortable working inside the control box, contact a qualified spa technician.
