Possible Causes

Low water flow through heater, Dirty or clogged filters, Airlock in circulation system, Failing high-limit sensor on heater tube

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF power at the breaker before removing filters or opening unions.

  • Restore proper flow:
    • Remove and clean all filter cartridges.
    • Check that all slice valves are fully open.
    • Bleed air from the circulation pump and heater unions by loosening slightly until water flows, then retighten.
  • Check for kinks or blockages:
    • Inspect flexible hoses around the circulation pump and heater for kinks or collapsed sections.
    • Look for debris in suction fittings and skimmers.
  • Reset high-limit (if manual reset type):
    • Locate the high-limit reset button on or near the heater tube (if equipped) and press firmly.
  • Replace high-limit sensor if recurring:
    • If HL returns quickly despite good flow, the high-limit sensor may be overly sensitive or failing.
    • Replace with a USSPA-compatible high-limit sensor.
