Possible Causes

One or more temperature sensors out of range, Sensor wiring harness damage, Incorrect sensor type installed, Control board sensor circuit fault

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF power at the breaker before handling sensors.

  • Identify sensors:
    • Locate both main temperature and high-limit sensors on the heater assembly.
  • Inspect wiring:
    • Check for damage, rodent bites, or loose connectors.
  • Test sensors:
    • With power OFF, disconnect and measure resistance of each sensor.
    • Compare readings; they should be similar at the same temperature.
  • Replace faulty sensor(s):
    • Install USSPA-compatible sensors and route cables properly.
  • Control board replacement:
    • If sensors test good but SE persists, the control board sensor input may be defective and require replacement.
