Possible Causes
Dirty or clogged filter cartridges, Air lock in circulation line, Blocked or partially closed slice valves, Weak or failed circulation pump
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the spa’s main breaker before opening any panels or touching internal components. Never work on the spa while it is energized or when you are standing in water.
- 1. Reset power: Turn the spa breaker OFF for 2–3 minutes, then ON again. Check if F1 clears. If it returns, continue below.
- 2. Clean or remove filters:
- Remove the filter cartridges from the skimmer/weir housing.
- Rinse thoroughly with a garden hose from top to bottom to remove debris.
- Temporarily run the spa without filters for a few minutes (with the cover open) to see if the code clears. If it does, replace or deep-clean the filters.
- 3. Bleed air from the system:
- Locate the circulation pump (Wellis often uses a dedicated low‑flow circ pump near the heater).
- Loosen the pump union slightly until water and air hiss out, then retighten once a steady stream of water appears.
- Repeat for any other pump unions if you recently drained/refilled the spa.
- 4. Check slice valves and shut‑offs:
- Verify that all slice valves on either side of the pumps and heater are fully pulled up/open.
- Ensure no external shut‑off valves in the equipment bay are closed.
- 5. Inspect circulation pump operation:
- Restore power and listen for the small circulation pump running.
- If it hums but does not move water, the impeller may be jammed or the pump failing.
- If the pump is cold and silent when it should be running, test power at the pump (qualified person only) or have a technician confirm.
- 6. If F1 persists: The flow/pressure switch or circulation pump may be defective. At this point, contact a Wellis‑authorized technician for diagnostics and replacement.
