Possible Causes
Open or shorted ambient NTC sensor, Damaged sensor harness to main PCB, Corroded connector at sensor plug, Failed main control PCB sensor input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the AEG dehumidifier from the mains before removing any covers. Do not work on the unit while it is connected to power.
- Power reset: Disconnect power for 5–10 minutes, then plug back in to see if E1 clears. Temporary glitches can trigger sensor errors.
- Check ambient sensor location: On most AEG dehumidifiers the room temperature sensor (NTC) is clipped near the air intake grille or on the evaporator inlet pipe. Remove the front or side panel as per the user manual and visually inspect the small probe with two thin wires.
- Inspect wiring and connector: Look for broken, pinched, or chewed wires between the sensor and the main control PCB. Reseat the connector on the PCB and at the sensor. Clean any corrosion with electrical contact cleaner.
- Measure sensor resistance: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance with a multimeter. A typical AEG NTC is around 5–15 kΩ at room temperature (20–25°C). If it reads open (OL) or near 0 Ω, the sensor is defective.
- Replace the sensor: If readings are out of range, replace the ambient NTC temperature sensor. Route the new sensor wiring along the original path and secure it away from sharp metal edges and moving parts.
- Check main PCB if sensor is OK: If the sensor tests good but E1 persists, the main control PCB sensor input may be faulty. At this point, professional diagnosis is recommended.
