Possible Causes
Obstructed fan wheel, Failed fan motor, Loose fan motor connector, Faulty fan driver circuit on main PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit. Beware of sharp metal edges and moving blades.
- Check for obstructions: Remove the front or rear grille and visually inspect the fan wheel for dust buildup, foreign objects, or ice. Clear any obstructions.
- Spin test: Gently spin the fan by hand. It should rotate freely without grinding or resistance. If it is stiff, the fan motor bearings may be worn.
- Inspect wiring: Locate the fan motor connector on the main PCB. Ensure it is fully seated and that wires are not damaged.
- Power test: With the unit powered (only if you are competent and careful), measure voltage at the fan motor connector when the fan should be running. If voltage is present but the fan does not turn, the motor is faulty.
- Replace fan motor: Remove the fan shroud, detach the fan blade from the shaft, and unbolt the motor. Install a new fan motor assembly and reattach the blade in the same orientation.
- PCB diagnosis: If no voltage is supplied to a known-good motor, the main control PCB fan driver may be defective and require replacement.
